Ashlee Evans-Smith (top) defeated Fallon Fox when via 3rd round TKO at CFA 12.
CORAL GABLES — Ashlee Evans-Smith (2-0) shocked the mixed martial arts world with her 3rd round TKO of transgender fighter Fallon Fox (3-1) at CFA 12 “Night of Champions,” on Saturday night at the BankUnited Center.
In the end three new champions were crowned including Evans-Smith and Yosdenis “Pink Panther” Cedeno.
Josh Sampo (10-2) held on to his Flyweight title with a unanimous decision win over Sam Thao in the main event on Saturday night.
Thao brought an unorthodox style to the cage on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to stop the champion from having another dominant win.
Efrain Escudero (21-7) defeated Luis “Baboon” Palomino (21-9) by unanimous decision in the co-main event of CFA 12, but the fans and some MMA experts begged to differ.
Evans-Smith may have had the fight and upset of the night when she TKO’d Fox in the 3rd round of the CFA Women’s Featherweight Tournament, earning herself a $20,000 check, the Women’s Featherweight Title and a standing ovation from the crowd.
Valdir Araujo (14-4) sunk in the first submission of the night and earned himself the CFA Welterweight belt with his 2nd round guillotine choke of a bloody Romario Manoel Da Silva (23-11).
Cedeno (9-2) won the once vacant CFA Lightweight Title by defeating Torrance Taylor (13-8-1) by a split decision in what was a back and fourth fight to say the least.
Cedeno came out and took the first two rounds before Taylor turned it on and possibly stole the last two rounds. In the end two out of the three judges ruled the fight in favor of the “Pink Panther”.
